Many people cope with stress in various ways, for me as a photographer it’s adult coloring books. I was re-introduced to coloring books when I picked up a copy of The Secret Garden by Johanna Brasford. After a particular rough period when I felt completely overwhelmed and utterly stressed out from just about every facet of life. I wanted some sort of escape but didn’t know how or what to do. Then I read an article about The Secret Garden Coloring Book and bought it that day.

The book sat untouched on my bookshelf for a few weeks until one day when I was completely stressed out and started coloring out of frustration. To my surprise, when I was done coloring I was not only calm but I was hooked on coloring. I was literally in another world spiritually, mentally and creatively. Wanting to channel my creative energy when coloring I invested in some colored pencils. After an online research I settled on the Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencil-Sets.

A few other coloring books had the very same effect on me. So selecting my yearly calendar was an easy choice when I came across the Color Your Year Wall Calendar (from Workman Publishing). It took me about a week to complete the month of January through layering and blending of the colors – (a mixture of Lotus Flowers and Koi Fishes in a pond).

My adult coloring books and Faber Castell polychromos pencils are now a part of my daily life. I take them everywhere I go and whenever I feel stressed I simply take out my books and start coloring.
